Where the grant pays for the equipment as well as the travel and
training for the employees on the equipment, before the equipment can be
turned over to the Sheriff's Office.

Computer based crimes in 2007. There is an active grant currently being
applied for, the results should be released near the end of 2008.

The Patrol staff is responsible for the law enforcement
needs to all the communities of Prowers County. They cover a vast area,
over 1500 square miles, and often drive over 30 miles just to respond to
a call for service. Our patrol deputies will handle most of these calls
without the aid of backup, yet must still investigate each and every
call with a high degree of professionalism. Patrol deputies are all
sworn peace officers for the State of Colorado and have all attended a
certified police academy.
Patrol deputies are required to submit accurate and
detailed reports of criminal activity, investigate Misdemeanor and
Felony crimes, prepare and serve arrest and search warrants, and testify
in court as needed. Patrol is supervised by Senior Deputy Sam Zordel.
Deputies receive regular training throughout the year in a variety of
job-related subjects including interview and interrogation, search and
seizure, and arrest control techniques. They averaged about 60 hours of
structured training in 2007.
The towns of Lamar and Granada have their own police departments and the
town of Holly contracts with the Prowers County Sheriff’s Office to
provide law enforcement services. However, the town of Granada only
employs one person as a police officer and the position has been vacant
since September of 2007. Even though these two communities have their
own police departments Prowers County deputies are often asked to help
out or back up their officers.
Below is a summary of services provided
by Sheriff Deputies to Prowers County communities and to those living
out of town.
