Here are the medals and awards that you might see employees and Posse members of the Prowers County Sheriff's Office wearing on their uniforms. These reflect the dedication and high level of service that our deputies give to the community.

Who has received medals and awards?

Medal of Honor

Awarded for:

An outstanding act in the line of duty with risk involved.

Combat Cross

Awarded for:

An individual act of heroism at imminent personal hazard of life in combat with an armed adversary

Gallantry Star

Awarded for:

An act of distinguished bravery in the arrest of a person who is a major threat to the welfare of the community and/or the Deputy

Meritious Service

Awarded for:

A highly unusual accomplishment under adverse conditions with some degree of hazard to life and limb to the nominee or where death or injury to a third party is prevented.

Life Saving Medal

Awarded for:

An act performed in the line of duty, which through disregard of personal safety or prompt and alert reaction, results in saving a life

Grand Cordon

Awarded For:

Individual participation by a member of an operating unit, whose efforts led to the entire unit in a cited action

Unit Citation

Awarded for:

A team effort under combat conditions including all participating staff members who in support of Departmental operations, distinguished themselves to effectuate the protection of Life and Property

Distinguished Volunteer Service Cross

Awarded for:

Voluntary assistance and additional safety measures provided by Certified Reserves & Volunteer Posse members which improved services for their community.

Sheriff's Achievement Medal

Awarded for:

An act or achievement by a Sheriff bringing acclaim to the Department and the Law Enforcement profession.

Official's Medal

Awarded for:

Achievement, courage, and high quality in carrying out the mission of Government; presented by an elected Official of a community to select individuals at his discretion.

Drug Buster

Awarded for:

The successful result of an undercover operation and/or arrest and with disregard to personal safety, succeeded in the arrest

of a narcotic criminal

Good Conduct

Awarded for:

10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 year service hitches without reprimand or instance of report of any matter

Ready Commendation

Awarded for:

Completion of 15 years service and continuing quality has been professionally ready to perform and dispatch his duties in the highest level of performance.

Honorable Discharge

Awarded for:

Recognition of a Deputy who is eligible for retirement and/or entering new employment opportunities and has served the community during his period of service in an honorable fashion.

Exceptional Duty

Awarded for:

A highly creditable accomplishment bringing public acclaim to the Deputy, his/hers department, and the Law Enforcement profession as a result of training and devotion to duty or service to the public

Honorable Service

Awarded for:

A creditable act in the line of duty, which meets some, but not all of the requirements for others medals, and is unusual in nature, showing initiative and accomplishment

Patriot Medal

Awarded for:

Dedication for the Defense and Protection of the United States Flag.

Unity Pin

The Service Unity pin is a combination of the Service Lapel pin and the Unity Ribbon. Established to create a universal symbol of America's support of our military and their families during the war against terrorism. We wear the Service Unity Pin to show your patriotism and support of our armed Forces working and fighting to keep us free!
